1,306 employees at OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, Meta AI, Safe Superintelligence and Thinking Machines signed a statement asking the US government to back an international effort to build the technical and governance tools for deliberately pacing automated AI research. Twenty signatories are named — Dario Amodei, Ilya Sutskever, Jakub Pachocki and John Schulman among them — and the ask is optionality, not an immediate slowdown: an admission that competitive pressure keeps any single lab or country from easing off alone.
