AlphaFold co-creator and 2024 Nobel laureate John Jumper joins Anthropic

John Jumper, who shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for AlphaFold — an AI model that predicted structures for over 200 million proteins — is leaving Google DeepMind for Anthropic after nine years, with Bloomberg reporting he had been working on Google's coding tools. The departure follows DeepMind co-founder Noam Shazeer's move to OpenAI this same week — two senior figures leaving Google's AI division for competitors within days of each other.
