Andy Pavlo joins ClickHouse as VP of Database Research to lead ClickHouse Labs
Carnegie Mellon's Andy Pavlo joins ClickHouse as VP of Database Research to build ClickHouse Labs, modeled on IBM Research and Microsoft Research and embedded with engineering rather than run as a separate group. His first priority is validating a backlog of optimizations ClickHouse engineers explored but never pushed to production, so the near-term output is shipped performance work rather than papers. A second track investigates what a DBMS needs to support agents and how agents can automate DBMS development; headcount, budget, and his CMU status are unstated.
