Anthropic keeps Fable 5 in Max and Team Premium but cuts limits to 50% of a reduced cap
Anthropic reversed its plan to pull Claude Fable 5 from subscriptions: from July 20 it stays in Max and Team Premium but at 50% of limits that themselves drop 33% as the bonus phase ends, while Pro and Team Standard lose access and get a one-time $100 API credit before pay-per-use at $10/$50 per million input/output tokens. The reversal reads as a competitive response — OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol matches Fable performance at a third of the cost, and Chinese pricing pressure is compressing everything below the frontier tier.

Anthropic acknowledged that Fable demand has been hard to manage and frustrating for users, and that it's continuing to invest in more capacity.

Why this matters
- → Fable 5 users face 66.5% total capacity cuts (33% base + 50% within that)
- → Pro tier loses access entirely; OpenAI's cheaper GPT-5.6 Sol is winning on price
- → Signals capacity constraints and competitive pressure reshaping subscription tiers
Capacity crunch vs. competition
