Anthropic locks in $10B of compute from Volta, a cloud startup that didn't exist six months ago

Anthropic signed a six-year, $10 billion deal for 133 megawatts from Volta Infra Holdings, a startup founded in early 2026 by ex-Brookfield managers, drawing on Bitdeer's hydropower-fed site in Tydal, Norway running Nvidia Vera Rubin chips. Capacity lands in two phases through March 2027, adding another supply lane next to Anthropic's existing deals with Google, Broadcom, Amazon, SpaceX and AMD. The financing is circular: Nvidia both invested in Volta's $300 million round at a $2.4 billion valuation and sells it the chips, concentrating the downside if AI demand undershoots.
