Anthropic signs $9.1B, 20-year data center lease with Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms
Anthropic leased 191 megawatts — power for roughly 143,000 homes — at Riot Platforms' Rockdale, Texas site for 20 years, at $9.1 billion and up to $16.1 billion with two five-year extensions. The structure is the signal: Riot builds, powers, cools, and operates the site while Anthropic supplies its own servers and chips, turning a Bitcoin miner into a frontier-lab landlord. None of it runs before December 2027, when the first 96 megawatts go live, with the remainder by June 2028.
