Caterpillar CTO Jaime Mineart says the company is porting its mining-autonomy stack into quarries and construction sites, drawing on 1.6 million connected assets and more than 16 petabytes of structured data, with a Cat AI Assistant now fielding voice queries for repair procedures in the field. The moat is the proprietary data and the retraining budget — $100 million over five years across 118,000 employees — not the models. Q2 2026 revenue hit a record $20.5 billion with power-generation sales up 72% to $3.10 billion, so the data-center buildout is funding the autonomy push.
