Clipto raises $15M at a $250M valuation for on-device AI file search
Clipto raised $15M in an all-equity round at a $250M post-money valuation from HSG, GL Ventures, EnvisionX Capital, Palm Drive Capital, and 522 Ventures for software that indexes video, audio, images, and documents on a user's own machine and retrieves them from plain-language descriptions, with processing kept local instead of in the cloud. The economics are the signal: a team of about 20 across San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Singapore, $15M in annual recurring revenue at the start of 2026, and profitability on a net-income basis. MCP support landed two weeks ago, letting ChatGPT or Claude query that local index — a bet that personal-file retrieval stands as its own product rather than a feature Adobe, Apple, and Google absorb into services they already own.

The real insight is that in this AI era, we don't have a content shortage. The opposite is true. We have too much content.
Why this matters
- → On-device AI search proves profitable at scale without cloud dependency.
- → Personal-file retrieval emerging as standalone product, not absorbed feature.
- → MCP integration opens LLM access to local indexes—portability play vs. walled gardens.
