Debian votes to allow AI-assisted contributions under a responsibility rule
Debian developers passed a General Resolution called "Responsible Use of Generative AI," rejecting both an LLM ban and unrestricted use — contributors must understand, review, test, and where appropriate modify AI-assisted output, and blindly uploading generated material is declared inconsistent with project practice. Disclosure of AI assistance is encouraged but not required, and mass actions like bulk bug filing or patch submission still need prior consensus, so accountability sits entirely with the human submitter rather than with a tool-detection policy.
