Discovered Materials raised a $9M seed from Lightspeed India Partners, Peak XV, and angels including Paul Graham, pointing swarms of AI agents at materials that cut heat in AI chips. The scaling is real — thousands of simulated guesses a day against the roughly 20 co-founder Akash Ramdas managed by hand during his Stanford materials science PhD. The constraint sits downstream: Lightspeed's Hemant Mohapatra says filtering and synthesizing candidates is the bottleneck, and no AI-discovered material has reached commercial scale.
