EU designates ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox under the DSA — a first for AI chatbots
The European Commission designated ChatGPT a Very Large Online Search Engine and Reddit and Roblox Very Large Online Platforms, after each declared at least 45 million average monthly EU users — the first generative AI chatbot to land in the tier. All three have until January 2027 to assess and mitigate systemic risks spanning illegal content, minors, elections, and public security, which puts a consumer-scale chatbot under the same obligations as the largest platforms.
