EU starts enforcing the AI Act on 2 August as disclosure rules take effect
The Commission's AI Office and national authorities start enforcing the AI Act on 2 August, when Article 50 makes disclosure mandatory — chatbots must say they are not human, deepfakes must be labelled, and AI-generated content must carry machine-readable marks. With over 180 organisations signed onto the Code of Practice that operationalises the rules, provenance marking shifts from voluntary practice to a shipping requirement for any product serving EU users.
