Google pays $10M for Spirit Airlines' data corpus to train its AI models
Google won a bankruptcy auction for the defunct airline's enterprise dataset with a $10 million bid, taking 100M+ emails, hundreds of millions of Teams messages, 30M lines of code, and pricing on 7 billion competitor flights spanning nearly two decades. A third party strips personally identifiable information before delivery, and passenger profiles and loyalty records are excluded. Corporate operational exhaust — internal chat, audits, fraud records, pricing history — now has a market price at bankruptcy auction, and dead companies are a live source of frontier training data.
