Nissan and Honda will jointly develop core vehicle software for fiscal 2029 models

Nissan and Honda signed a deal to share standardized core ECUs plus the in-vehicle operating system, middleware, and control software for software-defined vehicles reaching market in fiscal 2029, two years after talks opened in 2024. It puts two Japanese automakers on one software base against Toyota at home and mirrors the Volkswagen-BMW-Mercedes-Stellantis shared-OS effort in Europe — the platform layer, not the drivetrain, is where automotive scale now gets decided.
