OpenAI leases an Ohio AI campus scaling to 8 GW, backed by up to $105B from Nvidia
OpenAI signed a 20-year lease on a former Cold War uranium enrichment site in Pike County, Ohio for a data center starting at 4.25 GW and reaching 8 GW, with SB Energy building and owning the campus and Nvidia financing up to $105 billion. SoftBank and SB Energy are adding more than $4 billion in local grid infrastructure alongside at least 10 GW of new generation — the compute buildout has shifted from leasing capacity to funding power plants, with Nvidia underwriting demand for its own chips.
