OpenAI ships GPT-Live, a full-duplex voice model for ChatGPT

OpenAI's GPT-Live listens and speaks at the same time instead of turn-by-turn, and hands off questions needing web search or deeper reasoning to GPT-5.5 running in the background before resuming the conversation. Rolling out July 8 across iOS, Android, and web, it becomes the default voice mode for Go, Plus, and Pro users — with a mini variant default for Free — making simultaneous full-duplex the baseline rather than a separate Advanced Voice Mode.
