Sakana AI launches Sakana Translate, a free Namazu-powered JP-EN-ZH translator

Sakana AI released Sakana Translate, a free web tool for Japanese-English-Chinese that runs on Namazu — its Japan-adapted models post-trained on open weights like DeepSeek-V3.1 and Llama 3.1 405B — with Translate, Proofread, and Ask modes tuned to hold honorifics and register that general translators flatten. The bet is that a Japan-specialized post-training layer wins on interpersonal tone, a wedge for the Tokyo lab into enterprise Japanese workflows. The competitive XCOMET-XL scores on WMT 2024 come from Sakana's own tests, and there is no public API yet.
