SoftBank weighs a $20B bond sale to refinance its OpenAI bridge loan
SoftBank is in talks with banks over a $10-20 billion dollar and euro bond sale as early as September, to repay the $40 billion bridge loan behind its OpenAI stake, and is weighing a 144A structure for the first time in over a decade to reach US institutional buyers. At $20 billion it would be SoftBank's largest offshore offering — against $3.6 billion sold in April at an 8.5% coupon — and it prices how much debt capacity a single AI bet now consumes ahead of nearly $65 billion due to OpenAI by October. Nothing is decided, per a SoftBank spokesperson; Tokyo-listed shares rose 2.8% to 5,228 yen on the Bloomberg report.
