US House committees probe American companies' use of Chinese AI models
The House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Select Committee on China have sent letters to Airbnb and Cursor-maker Anysphere over their use of Chinese AI models, after China-built models jumped to 30-46% of US enterprise API token traffic from 4.5% in early 2025. The probe marks a shift from banning DeepSeek-class models inside government to policing their adoption across private industry, where cheaper Chinese open-weight models — Cursor built Composer 2 on Moonshot's Kimi — are now a default cost lever Washington cannot easily restrict.
