Sakana AI opens its Japanese-specialized Namazu model as a standalone API

Sakana AI opened Sakana Namazu, the Japanese-specialized model behind Sakana Chat, as an OpenAI-compatible endpoint at $0.95 per million input tokens and $4.00 per million output tokens, with web search at $7.00 per 1,000 calls. The model is Moonshot AI's open-source Kimi K2.6 post-trained in-house on proprietary data for keigo and Japanese business conventions — a shipped Japanese product built on an open Chinese base rather than a from-scratch pretrain. Japanese document and email workloads now have a natively tuned endpoint at commodity pricing, though the EU, UK, and Switzerland are excluded pending GDPR work.
