Waymo reveals its own 5nm chip running above 1,000 TOPS in the robotaxi trunk

Waymo disclosed its first custom silicon — a TSMC-built 5nm ASIC rated above 1,000 trillion operations per second that fuses raw camera, lidar and radar data into decisions within milliseconds, inside a trunk-sized unit running off the car's battery. The power-and-space envelope is the real constraint, and clearing it in a car sets the bar for humanoid robots, whose compute must be smaller still while operating in stores, homes and hospitals that are less predictable than city streets. Owning the chip also loosens Waymo's dependence on outside suppliers such as Nvidia.
