ZLUDA update Q1&Q2 2026 - back to the roots
ZLUDA, a CUDA-compatibility layer that runs CUDA software on non-Nvidia GPUs, shipped version 6, adding pre-alpha 32-bit PhysX support and Blender compatibility enabled by a new basic texture implementation, demonstrated by a roughly threefold FPS improvement in the 2010-era PhysX title Mafia II on AMD hardware. The Windows loader gained automatic performance-library loading and clearer ROCm diagnostics that identify missing libraries with install instructions. The project confirmed it moved from commercially funded development back to a volunteer weekend project roughly three months ago, with update cadence expected to slow from quarterly going forward.

ZLUDA development is no longer commercially funded, so it's back to being my weekend project.
Why this matters
- → AMD GPU owners can now run older CUDA games with better performance and visual effects.
- → Project transitions from commercial funding to volunteer-driven development, shifting priorities.
- → Expanded compatibility layer now supports PhysX and Blender workloads previously unsupported.
